CES PowerGREEN is a CES software enabled service. The platform is a combination of a locally installed controller and a web-based hosted platform. PowerGREEN allows customer to create measurable and verifiable electric spend savings by modifying electric usage via a fully-automated, predictive software platform. PowerGREEN can also facilitate revenue producing activity via wholesale electric market demand response participation.

PowerGREEN provides tiered levels of service:

Tier 1
PowerGREEN Lite

CES Deploys the PowerGREEN Control Panel at the Meter Location to Provide Live kW and kWh Monitoring via our web hosted user interface.

Tier 2
PowerGREEN

Tier 1+
CES Engineers along with facility personnel design and deploy the PowerGREEN Control Panel(s) providing real time precise control of onsite equipment for automated savings.

Tier 3
PowerGREEN VPP

Tier 2+
CES Distributed Energy Resource Team works with facility personnel to develop wholesale market strategies for increased revenue based on facility specific availability and constraints.

Tier 1
PowerGREEN – Lite

  • A PowerGREEN Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) deployed at a meter location to provide kW and kWh monitoring and web-based visualization of the meter data.
  • Sometimes just having a real-time visualization of usage can help facility managers identify what usage patterns are driving cost.
  • For manual participation in market and utility load reduction programs, ready access to real-time usage helps ensure compliance with baseline and/or firm service level compliance measures.

Tier 2
PowerGREEN

  • Automated control of facility equipment and/or generation and/or battery assets. All connections determined in cooperation with, and at the discretion of, facility engineers. We recognize the seriousness of connecting to business-critical equipment.
  • CES, in consultation with client’s facility engineers, will determine a set peak consumption level which the facility will be controlled to in order to minimize Retail Rate Demand Charges. Typically, this set-point is determined at a level that can be achieved with little to no impact on facility productive activity, though the client can choose to establish a more aggressive set-point if the energy savings economically support some level of reduced output.

To date, despite deployment at numerous facilities, including at a number of metal foundries, there has been no incident of PowerGREEN causing a production issue because: 1) there is close coordination with facility engineers, 2) PowerGREEN can be readily over-ridden at ANY TIME, 3) the level of equipment control and the set-point determined are developed with a default risk-adverse mindset.

Tier 3
PowerGREEN
Virtual Power Plant (VPP)

All the capabilities of Tier 2 PowerGREEN plus:

  • Monitoring of wholesale market real-time pricing and automated reduction based on a price set-point.
  • Most typically seen in restructured Regional Transmission Organization (RTO) or Independent System Operator (ISO) markets, this service further helps to control cost for those large end-users that are partially exposed to real-time prices such as Locational Marginal Pricing (LMP), and thus has incentive to reduce consumption at a price set-point above which it is not economic to operate certain equipment.
